Malai Boti or Tikka Boti Roll: Which Should You Order?

Malai Boti Pratha Roll at Cheezious Fawkner

Quick answer: Pick Malai Boti if you like mild, creamy flavours. Pick Tikka Boti if you want more spice and a smoky bite. Both are $12 at Cheezious in Fawkner and both are halal.

This is the question we get most at the counter, so here is a straight answer. Both rolls start with grilled chicken boti, which just means bite-sized pieces. The difference is the marinade, and that changes everything.

Malai boti: soft, creamy and gentle

Malai means cream. The chicken is marinated in cream and yoghurt with traditional spices, then grilled until the edges pick up some colour. Our roll adds fresh coriander. The taste is rich, a little peppery and not hot at all, which makes it a favourite with kids, with people who are new to desi food, and with anyone who wants something comforting.

Tikka boti: spiced, smoky and bolder

Tikka boti uses a spiced marinade that goes red-orange on the grill. In our roll it comes with chutney and a garlicky spicy sauce, so you get heat, tang and a bit of char in each bite. If you like a barbecue flavour with something to say, this is the one.
