Quick answer: A paratha roll is a flaky, pan-grilled flatbread wrapped around grilled meat, chutney and onion. At Cheezious in Fawkner our rolls are $12 for Malai Boti or Tikka, $13 for Seekh Kabab and $15 for the Mix Grill.
On our menu you will see it spelled “pratha”, which is how plenty of people write it at home. Either way, it is the same thing: one of the best handheld dinners you can get, and the reason a lot of people walk through our door.
The short version
Paratha is a layered flatbread. It is rolled out, folded and cooked on a hot plate with a bit of oil until it is crisp on the outside and soft in the middle. A paratha roll takes that bread and wraps it around a filling, usually grilled meat, something fresh like onion or capsicum, and a sauce or two.
It is street food in South Asia, the kind you eat standing up with one hand. Here in Fawkner we just make sure it is hot when you get it.
How it is different from a wrap or kebab
A wrap uses a thin, soft bread that is mostly there to hold things together. A paratha has texture. You get flaky layers and a bit of crunch where it touches the grill, and that is what makes it taste like more than a wrap.

How to eat it
Keep the paper on and peel it down as you go. Eat it while it is hot, because the crisp is the best part. If you are taking it home, tell us when you call and we will time it so it is not sitting around.
Is it filling?
One roll is a proper meal for most people. If you are hungry or sharing, pair it with chips from $6 or some garlic bread at $5. Our pratha roll page has everything in one place.
